Andy Johnston

Andy is deeply passionate about product design and engineering. Prior to working in venture, Andy held engineering leadership roles around the world at telecommunications giant Ericsson, where he worked in R&D teams building advanced systems and infrastructure – during that period, he helped establish and lead teams in Germany, Australia, China, Spain, and Sweden. His engineering background and understanding of what it takes to bring well-crafted products to market, continues to inform his investor mindset, and strong affinity for deeply technical founders.

Andy has been a professional investor for many years, first as a Partner at MOOR and later as Co-founder and Partner at Brightly Ventures. Over that time, he has worked closely with founders across deeptech, developer tools and enterprise software, contributing to the growth journeys of companies such as Volumental, Debricked, Buildsafe, Spotscale, and EVAM. In addition to investing, he is an experienced board member and angel investor, known for his hands-on approach and ability to support technical teams.

Andy is a polyglot with an enduring interest in international culture & politics. He also has a deep interest in the history of technology, aerospace, and science.
